Welcome and high hello from the Bue Ridge Mountains. Asheville, North Carolina must have the highest population density of genuinely amazing musicians that I have ever seen. My time here so far has been a significant and much needed boot to the ego. Step up, or sit down. American music has so many roots here you can't help but trip over them everywhere you go.
What is truly amazing though, is the open and collecitvely supportive nature of these supremely talented people. This place has taught me a valuable lesson: musicians, at every level, are nothing more than people playing music. It sounds simple, but it's been a profound realization for me. Any musician or artist who attempts to make it more than that is simply insecure. So those of you who think that music is some magical club with restricted access, pick up an instrument and pluck one note.
